DNC-CNC COMMS for Burny

FastLINK™ DNC Software is a specific communication solution for older Burny controllers. Historically the world's premier control, there are still many thousands in use on 2nd hand & retrofitted flame and gas cutting machines used for steel shape cutting so there is still a need for a simple solution such as FastLINK™, however as a 'legacy program' it is no longer updated or maintained.

Note that the more recent Burny controllers do not require DNC as they communicate via TCP/IP (a Network cable) - this is true for most modern controls, however the older controllers each have their own unique communications protocol which requires a comms solution such as FastLINK™.

The program performs the transfer of files by opening and controlling serial com ports on a computer to enable data transfer to CNC machines. It runs in unattended (download) mode which allows the cutting machine operator to download a program which resides on the PC without having to disturb the computer operator. The SERVER mode runs completely in the background under Windows.

REQUIREMENTS!! As a legacy communications solution it requires a valid On-Board SERIAL port under Windows. The PC serial connection to the machine controller allows older CNC's to download files stored on the PC via the serial link. This scenario was the norm before networking capabilities were added to controllers and this program is designed for this older type of setup. We recommend only using On-Board SERIAL ports, not add-in cards, nor USB-to-SERIAL converters. In addition, our solution presumes a working 'link' between the serial connection - PC and - controller. There are several types of implementations; we have some customers who use optical links with serial converters, we have others who use wireless modems, and some who twisted pair cabling.

FastLINK™ includes the following features:

  • Simple to operate. It has very few setup parameters depending on the controller.
  • The software supports both a trace mode and a monitor mode that can be used to solve communications problems.
